RECENT NEWS ABOUT THE SWAMPSCOTT YACHT CLUB

The Swampscott Yacht Club is a volunteer-type club founded in 1933 for the purpose of promoting yachting and sailboat racing in Nahant Bay  (see History). Located in the Swampscott Fish House on Fisherman’s Beach, Swampscott, the club currently has 232 members, about half of which are boaters.

SYC's burgeeSwampscott Harbor, where most members moor their boats, is open to the south and is accessible from the Town pier and floats or by launching a pram from the beach, in keeping with the tradition of the fishermen who have worked these waters continuously since colonial times. Swampscott is home to the Swampscott Dory.

Sailing, and especially sailboat racing, has always been one of the prime pursuits of the Club and its members. Dory racing was popular all through the 30s, 40s and 50s. In more recent times the Club has hosted Hobie Cat and Melonseed Regattas.
